Great news for South Africa and the Eastern Cape is the awarding of the 2018 Ironman 70.3 World Championship to Port Elizabeth. Scheduled for 1-2 September 2018, this would be the first staging of the event in Africa.
According to the organisers some 6,000 athletes from across the world are expected to descend upon the region and would arrive a few days prior to the event acclimatising themselves, with support from helpers, family and friends providing a huge economic boost.
This event is sure to attract visitors not only to the Port Elizabeth area but the Garden Route as well, including Jeffreys Bay. It would be great for the Local Tourism industry to make contact with the organisers in order to market our region to the international visitors during September 2018.
