RUN FOR LOVE 2018 VISITS JEFFREYS BAY
Taken from www.runforlove2018.com.
The world is a pretty scary place at the moment as hate and death continue to flood our news, eyes and ears every second of every day. We are raising awareness for LOVE by fundraising for authentic and empowering charities. We are emphasising the fact that we are all HUMANS and underneath our skin we are all the same.
Nick Lawson decided to run solo from the southernmost tip to the northernmost tip of Africa, journeying up the East coast and through 23 countries. He will make the journey the whole way alone, but he will never be alone because the whole world will be joining him in some way. Humans from every country on this planet will join him.
Leaving Cape Agulhas en route to Tunisia Nick stopped off in Jeffreys Bay on Monday 19 February 2018. He was met by local runners from both Kouga Multisport as well as the local JBay parkrun who accompanied him into town to the first stop at Awethu Restaurant where children from Makukhanye Primary School awaited the runners with lovely singing.
After a small lunch sponsored by Awethu and a meeting with various charities he visited the following charities during the afternoon, SOS Project Jeffreys Bay, Recycling Project, Joshua Project and Timion. Nick was well received and loved by all the children who met him. He was absolutely amazed by the good work done by these organisations.
Dinner was enjoyed at NINAS with curry night being the favourite and well enjoyed by our Aussie visitor. Many of the organisers enjoyed the evening with him and thanks to local photographer Joey Nel who presented Nick with a lovely canvas of the Jeffreys Bay beach front.
Nick was unable to depart the next morning due to a foot injury. Silvia Black then took care of him and thanks to Hannetjie van Oudtshoorn who arranged for physio, he was able to recover in the Marina. Many thanks to Geraldine who treated his injury.
At Wild Fig the group moved into Pharos School where the children showed their admiration for the barefoot runner. One of the children as well as Principal Fanie Vermaak prayed for him and wished him well on his journey.
Nick Lawson left Jeffreys Bay in high spirits with much love from our community.
Gerhardt Fouche the organiser wishes to thank the following individuals and organisations who contributed to the success of this project:
Silvia Black, Hannetjie van Oudtshoorn, Joey Nel, Michelle Ohlhof, Ron Miles, Tanja Lategan, Susan Meyer, Johan du Toit, Clr Danny Benson, Cat Schriven, Print Core, Smart Security, ADT/Fidelity, Kouga Traffic Department, Kouga Multisport, JBay parkrun, Awethu Restaurant, Ninas restaurant, Seashells Holiday Accommodation, JBay Academy, Pharos, Makakanja Primary School, Joshua, JBay Recycling, SOS Project Jeffreys Bay, Timion and Joining Hands Community Paper.
Well done Jeffreys Bay community. You certainly warmed an Aussie’s heart. This message of Love will certainly spread all over the world with him.
Here is a transcript from the diary of Nick Lawson about his visit to JBay:
Yesterday I arrived in Jeffreys Bay to one of the most beautiful and loving experiences I have ever been a part of. A big group of people greeted me and ran into town with me where we all had lunch together and then I got to visit some amazing projects around the area. The SOS Project Jeffreys Bay providing food and clothes and supplies to people who desperately need it. The Joshua Project. Educating 3 different groups of vulnerable children each day and taking them on camps and excursions etc. The Recycling Project. Where children bring plastic bottles from the streets and they receive tokens that they can buy food and house supplies in a special shop. Some of the kids also save up their tokens and then buy a bicycle. And the Timion project. They handcraft physical aides like walkers and special chairs for children with cerebral palsy and send them all around South Africa, 80% of them for free. I am blown away by the amount of community engagement in this place and it makes me so happy to see so many incredible people coming together to break down the barriers of hate and help each other as the human race. All with love. I love it so much my foot has decided to play up and I am going to stay here and rest it for a day and am getting a consultation with a sports physio now : Love you guys. Be the change X
